In this Treatise on Nuns almost all questions and potential situations are addressed The Index at the front is an outline of the situations and the laws which apply to them. Namely, on Reception, Novitiate, Dowry, Renunciation of goods, Profession, Veil, Consecration, Religious Votives, Closure, Obligations, Prohibitions, Penalties, Privileges, and Government, with regard to their Prelates, Abbess, and Ordinary and Extraordinary Confessors. Added to the Formulary of Licenses, which is more frequently used in the government of Nuns. Fifth edition, several times revised.
What makes the treatise particularly interesting is the degree of administrative detail devoted to enclosure (clausura). The table of contents alone shows how carefully the subject is subdivided: the departure of nuns, the admission of outsiders, the reception of girls for education, and the controlled communication between the convent and the outside world. Such precision reflects the post-Tridentine effort to regulate female religious life with far greater uniformity than had often existed in medieval practice. Rather than a devotional text, the work reads as a practical manual of governance, translating the ideals of reform into concrete institutional rules.
Seen in this light, the sections on enclosure reveal the tension inherent in early modern convent life. Convents were meant to be spaces of strict spiritual separation, yet they remained embedded in family, educational, and civic networks. The detailed regulations governing entrances, exits, and communication show the Church attempting to stabilize that boundary. The text therefore provides a valuable window into the administrative realities of post-Reformation Catholic reform and the mechanisms through which ecclesiastical authority sought to structure daily religious life.

Of course, I understand that acquisitions often require time and committee discussion, I am always glad to work flexibly with institutions when something fits their research profile.
