Lately I have been reading politically rather than merely substantively. These five books are not neutral texts but artifacts of ideological conflict—where theology, science, law, and human agency collide. Miracles and natural philosophy, nuns and friars, Lutheran reform and political authority all appear here in contested form. I hope my readings make clear how directly these works still speak to the present.
