1681 Life of Anne de Xainctonge — Founder of the Ursulines of the Franche-Comté (First Edition, Zug)

A rare first edition of the foundational biography of Anne de Xainctonge, whose Ursuline community—shaped deliberately on Jesuit educational ideals—pioneered active female pedagogy in the Catholic Reformation. Mourath’s 1681 life is both hagiographic tribute and institutional defense, here preserved in an excellent contemporary binding.

Georgette de Montenay The first emblem book written by a woman.

Georgette de Montenay’s emblem book stands at the crossroads of Reformation devotion and early modern innovation: the first emblem book ever written by a woman and the earliest to use copper engravings rather than woodcuts. The 1619 Frankfurt edition preserves her pioneering vision in a refined Protestant “Stammbuch” format.

Two substantial 1578 Wittenberg printings by Christoph Vischer Not represented in North America.

Two substantial 1578 Wittenberg printings by Christoph Vischer—his expansive sermon-commentary on Luther’s Kleiner Katechismus and his Haustaffel on the duties of the estates—here appear together in a contemporary pigskin binding richly stamped with Lutheran motifs of the Annunciation and Baptism. Printed by Hans Lufft, these works reveal how Lutheran doctrine moved from Reformation confessions into the lived rhythms of parish teaching and household discipline.
